Watchtree Open Air Cafe

Posted June 30, 2020 by Senga Grave

Re-opening the cafe in the visitors centre whilst remaining compliant with Covid 19 regulations is practically impossible! The building and its main entrance is also used for toilets, reception, our own offices and much more.

However, we’re blessed with 205 acres of land and in the current situation it makes sense to spread out. So, from Friday the 10th of July until at least mid September we’ll be running the Watchtree ‘Open Air’ Cafe in partnership with Hallfords Farm Produce!

You’ll find the Hallfords team cooking up a storm in our John Muir Hut, which is nestled between Pow and Pond Wood. We will be adding lots of picnic tables to the area along with cleaning stations and bins.

The menu will change regularly but will include burgers and sausages from Hallfords own farm and butchery as well as tasty vegetarian treats. Hot and cold drinks will also be available.

We are thrilled to be working with Hallfords, they are a responsible business with a similar ethos to our own! They are driven to provide high quality produce and service whilst respecting the reserve and the natural environment.

As the facilities will be completely outdoors, we will not be opening the outdoor cafe in very bad weather. However we intend to be operational at least 4 days per week, 7 days if the sun’s shining! We will update our Facebook page regularly with further details. Card payment will be possible and preferred although cash will also be taken.

Watchtree will also be opening a pop-up shop for cold drinks and ice creams near the visitors centre. This will operate on an honest box basis although it will be closely monitored by our bike sales team – who will be right next door if you need any help.
