Friends of Watchtree Nature Reserve
Visit to Hedleyhope Fell, County Durham
Access to the Nature Reserve out of office hours is the principal benefit offered to Friends of Watchtree. To become a "Friend" involves a brief induction programme about the site rules and Health and Safety procedures with the Nature Reserve Manager or a Director, who will then inform you of the access and signing in procedure. Thereafter you may access the site in daylight hours at weekends and evenings. During site 'office hours' (Mon to Friday 0900 to 1700) sign in at the Reserve Office.
The Friends of Watchtree consist of local people who have expressed an interest in the nature reserve. Some Friends simply like to be kept informed of developments and projects at Watchtree whilst others assist with office based work such as editing, get stuck in to practical conservation tasks or make best use of the reserves interesting landscapes and wildlife through art and photography. A number of Friends regularly involved with projects have also become Directors and assist with Watchtree's decision making and project management.
There are currently over one hundred and fifty Friends associated with Watchtree Nature Reserve, if you would like to become a Friend please contact Tim Lawrence, Watchtree Nature Reserve Manager, for more information on 01228 712539 or email : wnr@watchtree.co.uk
Many Friends are also active Watchtree volunteers and attend our weekly volunteer work parties on Wednesday’s at 10:30am or the first Saturday of the month, again at 10:30am. Please check the website for up to date times and arrangements. Find out what's on at Watchtree
