School education

‘The perfect place for school based education’

With two fabulous mixed woodlands, flower-rich hay meadows, miles of hedgerows and ponds, the reserve has much to offer for educational groups. We also have 2 classroom spaces, one on each end of the reserve. The porta cabin (located next to the cycle training area) contains tables and chairs and food and drink making facilities making it ideal for lunches and indoor, classroom based activities. The John Muir Hut (located between Pond Wood and Pow Wood) is more of an open shelter with benches, a large table and some nature based resources. It makes lovely central base for woodland based activities and dodging those occasional showers. Our Visitor Centre contains toilets and is a good starting point for any visit, however there are also portaloos next to the John Muir Hut meaning that groups basing themselves down there do not have to come back up for toilet breaks.

Watchtree’s varied habitats and facilities allow you to tailor your educational session to the needs of your school/ group.

All of our educational visits are self-led putting you in the driver’s seat and allowing you to devise the perfect visit for your group. You can find everything that you will require to create your ideal visit in our ‘Education Portal’. In there we have provided resources such as lesson plans, work sheets, risk assessments and schemes of work. There are a number of these covering several areas of the curriculum. These include nature, science, geography, history and art and design. Each document is easily editable so that they can be made to suit all ages and abilities. On the Education Portal you can also find essential information which can be useful when planning, booking and also during your visit.
